DASH Blogger Sophie is back with her tips on beating stress

“We all experience stress at some point in our lives, but there are things you can do to support your body through stressful times.

So, having finished exams and come through the end of the revision tunnel I wanted to share 3 things with you that I found helped me to make the most of this time, stay focused and hopefully produce better results (fingers crossed!). This helps with stress in all areas of life, not just exams:

  • Sleep – early nights and early mornings are the dream! The sooner before midnight the better quality sleep you have supposedly. Most nights I was in bed by 22:30 which is usually not the case but it made it so much easier to get up in the mornings and meant that I didn’t start to fall asleep whilst revising Porter’s generic strategies.
  • Short, sharp runs – Basically DASH. This was a great solution to my wanting to exercise but needing to spend as much time revising as possible. Keeping it to 30mins but a quick pace meant I got some fresh air, pushed myself, perspective & had a break and slept better that evening.
  • Bananas – I have a real issue with snacking when I work, particularly sugary snacks (I’m sure I’m not the only one!). To try and get around this in a more healthy way bananas were a fabulous find. Filled with good vitamins and enough to satisfy that snack shaped hole these were a good brain food choice. Make sure you don’t have too many though!”
