So, we had the privilege of heading out on a full Alpine Ayurveda Retreat with www.mind-body-medical.co.uk & honestly we didn’t know what to expect. Ayurveda’s literal translation is life science & is focused around your gut health. There’s so much information out there and everybody is saying different things every 2 mins so actually this was a breath of fresh air. We spent a week in the Alps, waking up to early morning yoga, meditation, a little altitude running (which of course we threw in there!) and the best vegetarian, sugar free food by the teams very own chef. Typically spoilt. Now, how does Ayurveda work with running and even sprinting? Well, the principles help to restore balance in the body, repair cells and when everything works together that’s when you’re truly in tune with your body and can unleash that ability to go a little faster – nothing has more power to heal the body than the mind. If you’re somebody that suffers a lot from bloating, digestive issues, sluggishness post-meal then this is a must for you!
How do we get there?
Well, without bombarding you with information here are some things you can implement in your daily life:
Morning routine is key – your body is designed to naturally wake up early and go to bed so anything outside of that routine is going to cause the body to release stress hormones just to keep it awake at night. Set that alarm and focus on the morning routine whatever it may be, ensure that it is peaceful.
Understand your Dosha. This isn’t mumbo jumbo, this is basically your blueprint, every human is different & there may be something aggravating you that you didn’t even realise. People express illness differently according to their Dosha. A great way of understanding yours is following this link from The Chopra Center: https://chopra.com/articles/what-is-a-dosha
Always sit to eat and try not to eat in front of the TV and computer – this is a must if you’re bloating as it helps you to digest food better.
Drink hot water with ginger and lemon – ginger has been proven to help clear out the digestive system relieving gas and symptoms of IBS.
The best thing about this retreat was not only was it actually affordable, the hosts super humble and full of great knowledge backed up by their own research it was actually life changing. Simple changes into your current life make the world of difference. For more info on their next upcoming retreats head to https://mind-body-medical.co.uk
