London Marathon Prep – Running Arms

London Marathon Prep – Running Arms

To all of you runners out there preparing for the London Marathon, here’s a DASH running tip for you…ARMS.

A wise man once told me that your arms are your engine when running. “How?” you ask.

Your arms when used properly will aid your hips to move back and forth, also causing your legs to move.

A 90 degree angle created from your elbow with your forearm, relaxed shoulders, hands coming up to eye level and back to your back-pocket.

Tip from our Guru – Move your arms and your legs will follow.

Think of your arms like a pendulum, with most of the force coming through during the middle part of the swing phase. This still allows you to get the benefit of your arm power whilst still being relaxed and not in constant tension.

So when you hit the wall during your run or feel like you are slowing down, focus on your arms. Move your arms and your legs will follow.

16 days till the London Marathon! Happy Training!
